Disney couldn’t have chosen anyone better than the first African American principal dancer with the American Ballet Theatre to hop on board with its latest Nutcracker project.
Misty Copeland took to Instagram to reveal the exciting news about joining the cast of Disney’s upcoming film, “The Nutcracker and The Mouse King.” She will be gracing the film with her amazing ballet talents, as she’ll be playing the lead ballerina in what’s said to be the only dance clip in the movie.
The classic fairytale, which has been remade in the past, will depict a young girl’s reaction to her Christmas nutcracker toy coming to life, fighting off the evil Mouse King, and sweeping her off her feet to a magical land.
Copeland’s not new to performing “The Nutcracker.” Back in 2014, she took the stage with American Ballet Theater’s Sterling Baca to perform the piece.
No word on if her piece in the movie will be similar to the one she performed in 2014, but the film is said to be great, being in the hands of the legendary Lasse Hallström and Mark Gordon.
