Who Is Hugh Freeze?

Hugh Freeze is a gifted title-winning football coach. Birthed as Danny Hugh Freeze Jr in Oxford, Mississippi on September 23, 1969, he had his High School education at Senatobia High School before heading to the University of Southern Mississippi where he acquired a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics and a minor in Coaching and Sports Administration in the year 1992.

Even though Hugh didn’t play college football during his youthful age, he has successfully carved a niche for himself in sports administration.

His Carrer As A School Football Coach

With his college studies completed, Hugh Freeze joined the staff of Briarcrest Christian School in Memphis, Tennessee, as their team’s offensive coordinator and defensive back coach. He later served as the students’ dean before being promoted as the head coach of the team in 2005.

In his capacity as the team’s head coach, he led the team to the state championship twice in 2002 and 2004. Additionally, Hugh Freeze saw the team to the regional championships from 1995 to 1998, and in 2001 and 2002. His exploits with the team earned him the Region 8-AA Coach of the Year honors for a record of 5 times and Associated Press (AP) Coach of the Year honors for a record of 6 times.

In 2005, five times coach of the year became a part of the coaching crew of the University of Mississippi as an assistant athletic director for football external affairs. His excellent disposition made him the team’s tight end coach and recruiting coordinator. He rose to the rank of an interim coach following the exit of Ed Orgeron. Following the team’s choice of Kent Austinas the head coach, Hugh left and joined Lambuth University in January of 2008. He led the team to many playoffs.

After two years at Lambuth University, Hugh left to join San Jose State University where he served as the team’s offensive coordinator. After a short spell, Hugh joined Arkansas State as the offensive coordinator in 2010. His wealth of experience and contributions positively transformed the team’s records, he was named the head coach of the team following the exit of Steve Roberts.

IN Hugh’s single-season as the head coach in 2011, he led the team to a 10-2 record victory which handed the team their first Sun Belt Conference title since 2005. Hugh joined Ole Miss on December 5, 2011, where he had 5 years coaching spell.

Despite his impressive stats at Miss Ole, Hugh Freeze voluntarily stepped down as Ole Miss’s head coach because he was embroiled in a series of legal tussles. It was alleged that he used an official phone maintained by the university to call a Tampa escort service amidst other misconducts. The head coach claimed that he had erroneously dialed the number. He has as since been employed by Liberty Flames Football team, on the 7th December 2018, where he is currently acting as the head coach.

Hugh Freeze’s coaching acumen is never in question. The support he gets from his wife has been massive. Hugh’s wife is Jill Freeze, an adorable woman he married almost three decades ago.

Hugh and Jill were both students of USM. They met in a Mathematics class, then shortly after they began courting eventually ending at the altar of the Baptist church in Independence, Mississippi on July 25, 1992. After which the happy couple spent their honeymoon at Gatlinburg, Tennessee.

Their union has brought forth three daughters namely – Ragan, Madison, and Jordan. Ragan the eldest of the three has graduated from the college.

Hugh’s wife Jill is a Louisville, Mississippi native who graduated from the Department of Mathematics and secondary education, of the University of Southern Mississippi. The mother of three holds a master’s degree in Secondary Education and has taught in various high schools for over a decade. The supportive wife helps in running the Freeze Foundation, which is focused on putting smiles on faces of orphans across the globe.
